10 seconds of fame with BlackBerry and Slikour

25/07/10 08:15
Three lucky students are set to feature on Slikour's Ventilation Mixtape series after they won a competition sponsored by BlackBerry smartphones run through the Student Village website.

BlackBerry has joined forces with Slikour to record and shoot a video remix of his first VV3 single 'Phume Elayinini' featuring the three winning students. To win the competition, run as part of the 'Do U Speak BlackBerry?' campaign, the students had to impress Slikour with their original rhymes for a remixed version of 'Phume Elayinini'.

Slikour wrote the initial verse for the track and posted it on the website, then chose the three students that composed the best verses to join him on the remix. It is a huge opportunity for the aspiring rappers since the Mixtape series traditionally features well-known artists.

The winning students, chosen from hundreds of entries, are Bunjoy (Buyisiwe Njoko) from the University of Kwa-Zulu Natal, and University of Johannesburg students reason2die (Nkomo Magolo) and likwidflo (Thabo Mokale).

They will feature in a remix video that follows on an original video that featured established artists like Kwesta, DJ Cleo, Dj Sbu and Shugasmakx.

Students will have an opportunity to get a hands-on experience with BlackBerry at campus events on the following dates and may even feature in the Slikour video:
- Wits - 21 July 2010
- University of Johannesburg - 23 July 2010
- University of Cape Town - 29 July 2010
- University of KwaZulu Natal - 30 July 2010
- Tuks (University of Pretoria) - 6 August 2010

The BlackBerry? Brand Ambassadors, students who know and love the BlackBerry smartphones, will also be on hand to talk about their benefits.
